Staff Spotlight: Blair Anderson

Hi Blair. Tell us, where are you from?

I was born on a little farm in Dannevirke, New Zealand then moved to Hawkes Bay when I was 13. I spent a bit of time in London and travelling around Europe but have lived in Australia for the most part of the last seven years.

When did you join Webtools?

I joined Webtools 12 months ago. I’d been working within the energy industry in Australia for a few years where I had the pleasure of meeting the O’Donnell brothers. I was dabbling in renewables when I decided to take on a new challenge in software as Webtools AU’s second employee!

What is your role within Webtools?

I work with clients to understand business requirements in relation to system implementation and optimisation and translate these into functional requirements for our developers to work their magic. I also do consulting for start-up energy retailers, helping to implement customer lifecycle processes and communications, regulatory obligations and product and pricing setup.

What is your favourite aspect of your job?

I find being able to turn an idea into something tangible that meets the users’ needs is really rewarding. I also enjoy learning more about Project Management methodology off the more senior PM’s within the team and all the buzzwords that come with it.

What's the coolest thing you're working on right now?

Coming from managing customer comms for an energy retailer, I love being involved in the design and implementation of comms within our UCONX system (www.uconx.com.au). UCONX manages the end-to-end customer on-boarding process for energy and telco retailers as well as product and pricing and all the regulatory requirements across Australia. We’re always building upon UCONX and it’s great to see the benefits the system has to our clients.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?

I love to cook (I have a thriving vegetable and herb garden that I’m always expanding on). I’ve recently taken up jewellery making which I’m terrible at but is a lot of fun. Big fan of yoga and basically any excuse to hang out with dogs, I’m there.

What is something that no one knows about you?

Growing up I had a horse, a pet goat, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 2 mice, 2 ducks, 2 chickens, and a whole family of frogs #farmlife
